Volume 1 in the Woodman family saga begins in 1814 as James fights the invading British as a member of the District Militia. After the war he returns to the family farm where he is forced to continue fighting, but this time he must fight his own countrymen to maintain his birthright: Freedom! As a conductor on the Under Ground Rail Road he helps many others escape slavery and get free in Canada, all the while running a successful farm and raising the next generation of Woodmans. This is a unique view of our shared American history from the point of view of a young black man as he and his family grow with the young country. It is painstakingly researched and accurate. Volume 2 will be out this spring.
