CHINESE CIRCLES is a series of three novels covering the turbulent years from 1937 to 1973 in China and Hong Kong. Packed with romance, intrigue, treachery, conspiracy, sex and evil, my characters live and die. It’s 1936, and the taipan of the Guest company, a triad leader, and a beautiful Russian girl find their lives treacherously entwined in THE SHANGHAI CIRCLE. While the flawed but fascinating city of Shanghai faces a Japanese invasion, the characters circle each other in a perilous world as they fight for their survival and future. In THE HONG CIRCLE, escaping the invasion of Shanghai, they begin new lives in Hong Kong in 1939. With Europe on the abyss, and the Nazis threatening the whole of Europe, the tiny colony looks over its shoulder at its colossal neighbour, and also prepares for the threat of the Japanese, who have Hong Kong firmly in their sights. Hong Kong begins to grow into its new role in 1949 as the industrial powerhouse of Asia in The MAO CIRCLE. While thousands of Chinese immigrants descend upon the tiny colony, it also faces the ever-powerful triads, dangerous riots, and police corruption. Across the border, Mao Zedong begins his catastrophic plan for his country, which will make him the largest mass murderer in history.
